MAPS LAB

 Come join the MAPS Lab!

Prospective Ph.D. Students

Interested individuals should contact our Principal Investigator, Sayako Earle (fsearle@udel.edu) to discuss how their research interests align with those of our lab. More information on UD’s Ph.D. program in Communication Sciences and Disorders can be found here.

Opportunities for MA Students

We have paid hourly positions as well as opportunities to complete capstone projects through the lab. The MAPS Lab can be an excellent way for current MA students in Speech Language Pathology or in Education to gain hands-on experience with skills such as standardized test administration.

Opportunities for Undergraduate Students

We have hosted undergraduate students in Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, and Pre-Med or Health Sciences programs in the past, and are open to working with anyone interested in our research and methods. Undergraduate students may join the lab as volunteer research assistants or earn credit through the CSCD490 course. Research assistants work 6 hours per week (for those seeking course credit, this equates to 2 credits). Although every semester has different needs, our research assistants are generally involved in the following:

  • Data Collection: fMRI scanning, administering standardized tests, EEG recording, running behavioral experiments
  • Data Processing: scoring EEG files and standardized tests, helping to organize and analyze data
  • Recruitment: hanging flyers, creating new advertisements, maintaining social media, helping us find new avenues for recruitment
  • Independent Research Project (for credit-obtaining students only): Students come up with an original research question and propose a study to answer this question. In subsequent semesters, students may add their own measures to our existing projects to collect and analyze real data.

We generally recruit RAs for the Summer/Fall in April and for the Spring in November of each year.

Undergraduate students interested in applying should complete the application form here.

Summer Opportunities

In the past, we have hosted students from UD as well as from other universities participating in programs such as Summer Research Scholars and McNair Scholars. We enjoy having the opportunity to work with a variety of new students during the summer months. Please check the above websites for updates.
