About

Haritha Malladi is an Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Director of First-Year Engineering at the University of Delaware. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from National Institute of Technology in Warangal, India. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a doctoral minor in Statistics from North Carolina State University. She then stayed on for another two years as Postdoctoral Research Scholar at NC State University. Prior to joining the University of Delaware faculty in 2020, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Lafayette College for two years.

At UD, Malladi teaches the First-Year Experience course for the incoming class of engineering students. Her research interests lie at the intersection of engineering education, sustainability, and community engagement. Her doctoral work focused on improving the performance of recycled asphalt pavements using warm mix asphalt additives. As a postdoctoral scholar at North Carolina State University, she worked on several NCDOT sponsored research projects that focused on pavement preservation techniques including the developing specifications for crack sealant application and performing field measurements of asphalt emulsion application in tack coats and chip seals.

Alongside teaching, she is passionate about science communication and public involvement in science. She is interested in incorporating data-driven research, citizen science, and experiential learning into teaching and outreach.
