Special Sessions

Special Sessions may be proposed on any linguistic topic that would be of interest to meeting attendees, but we especially welcome proposals consistent with the theme of ”bridges” (e.g., first and second language acquisition, psycholinguistics, minority endangered varieties, neurolinguistics, etc.).

Submission of Special Session Proposals:

The proposer/s should send directly to the conference organizers the following information / items (by the abstract deadline, or better – a bit before if possible):

  •  Title of Session
  •  Organizer/s and Affiliation/s
  •  Brief overview of topic and why it is particularly suitable for a special session
  •  Preferred format (2 paper sessions; 1 paper / 1 poster session; other ideas would be considered if you would like to suggest something).
  •  Proposed organization of the sessions, with names of presenters and titles (this cannot be anonymous).
  •  Full set of abstracts of the presentations and posters proposed for the session (following usual guidelines).

Please do NOT include the author’s information on the abstracts; instead, provide a separate list of the authors and the corresponding abstract titles.

We will send out the full proposal to (at least) two reviewers in the research area for evaluation of the overall plan.  The individual abstracts must also be submitted as regular abstracts, but we will handle the results somewhat differently.
  • If there are some small problems (e.g., one abstract is rejected), but the overall assessment of the proposal and most abstracts is positive, we will work with the organizer of the session to either address the issue or submit a substitution (though this may delay the final decision).
  • If it is determined that the special session is not feasible for some reason, all of the individual abstracts will still have a chance of being accepted, as they will have undergone the standard review process.

In all cases, student contributions should be indicated, so they can be considered for the student abstract award.
