For my interview I went to talk to my high school Japanese teacher Brian Sousa. Mr. Sousa or Sensei as I always called him, was the person I went to for all information regarding going towards a career in teaching a foreign language. When I asked him about why he began teaching, he said that he found it fun and just liked being able to spread the Japanese language to students like myself willing to learn. Sensei also told me that travelling to the country who’s language you will be teaching is essential even if you can’t spend years and years living there. A couple of months at a time is more valuable then no time. I then asked him what were some good things to do after getting my bachelor’s degree and he almost immediately said to go and get my masters in order to open up more opportunities. I definitely think going to talk to my old Japanese teacher was a good idea to figure out what I wanted to do and how to go about it in the future.
