Barebow, Recurve or Compound Bow
Rules: We will follow the State 4-H Archery Contest rules for our Kent County Event. Check online at https://www.udel.edu/academics/colleges/canr/cooperative-extension/personal-economic-development/4H-youth-development/events/ (or check with the County Office).
Equipment: Barebows and arrows will be provided, but you may bring your own. Compound and Recurve bows and arrows will not be provided. Please note: ground quivers will not be used, please bring a hip quiver or one will be provided. Arm guards and finger protection are required; arm guards, finger tabs and hip quivers will be available to use at the event.
Equipment Standard:
Barebow/Basic Compound – This is a “Hybrid” class combining Barebow with Basic Compound.
- A “Basic Compound” is a Genesis Bow (or similar) without a Sight and shot using a finger tab, gloves or the string mounted finger savers.
- A “Barebow” is a bow with a rest and free from protrusions, sights or sight marks, which could be of use in aiming. The unbraced bow complete with permitted accessories shall be capable of passing through a hole or ring with a 12.2cm inside diameter +/-0.5mm.
Recurve Bows – Only may be used in any recurve divisions.
- Sights – Aperture – Levels – Magnification – are all per NGB rules
Compound Bows- Only may be used in the compound bow divisions.
- String peep – Hunting Sights – Optical Sights – Levels – are all per NGB rules
- Over-draw arrow rests – Archers may use an over-draw if they have displayed competence in shooting with that equipment. Overdraws are limited to a 6 cm or 2.5 inch maximum measured from the pivot point to bearing surface of the arrow rest.
- Release aids – may be used only by compound shooters in the compound division, and the archer must demonstrate competence in shooting with the release for safety requirements.
Arrows: Must match bow being used for length and strength. Wooden arrows will not be permitted for use in compound bows. No hunting, broadheads, or expandable points are permitted.
Recognition for top placements in each age division and bow category will be announced at the end of the event on-site. Results will be posted on the blog within 48 hours.
