Delaware 4-H State Camp
2022 Newsletter
Revised March 22, 2022

Based on current State and UD protocols, Delaware 4-H is planning in-person camps at full capacity at this time. NOTE: If there are any required protocols for youth to complete or adhere to prior to attending camp, these will be shared in advance to all campers so they can be in place before the start of camp.

Revisions to Camp Attendance Policy for Summer 2022
With plans ongoing for an in-person 2022 Delaware 4-H State Camp and the 2022 Environmental Camp experience, we felt it important to share the following revisions to the attendance policy in light of in-person safety restrictions and compliance with state and university health guidance.
1. Any camper who attended Delaware 4-H State Camp previously, either virtually or in-person, is eligible to register for Delaware 4-H State Camp in 2022.
2. Any youth between the ages of 10 years and 19 years old on 6/1/22 may apply to State Camp in 2022.
3. Any youth between the ages of 8 years and 12 years old on 6/1/22 may apply to Environmental Camp in 2022.
4. Camp fees for 2022: State Camp, $375 per week. Environmental Camp, $145. (Note: The change in fee is the result of increased per camper fees that will be assessed to Delaware 4-H by Camp Barnes.)

ENROLLMENT CHANGE: At this time, we are expecting to enroll at full capacity. If for any reason protocols are changed and we are required to reduce camp capacity, we will need to take the following actions:
1. All 10-year-old campers will be withdrawn from the week-long camp and will be encouraged to attend State 4-H Environmental Camp.
2. If additional capacity reduction is still required to meet protocols, it will be done by withdrawing youth who registered for camp using a last-in, first-out approach.

Registration
Registration for Delaware 4-H State Camps opens April 1 at 10:00 AM for active 4-H’ers. Registration for non-4-H’ers will open May 1 if availability remains. Online registration is required. You may pay by credit card at the time of registration or mail a check for the full balance due by June 1, 2022.

Camp Policies
Code of Conduct Violations
Anyone breaking the Code of Conduct during the 4-H year will not be put in a leadership role at State 4-H Camp. If the offense is severe enough, the 4-H’er will not be allowed to attend State 4-H Camp. If infractions occur at camp, parents may be contacted for immediate pick-up. Refunds related to expulsion will not be considered.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are not permitted at camp. The use of cell phones has become a distraction and takes away from the ability of campers to stay focused on camp. Any camper that brings a cell phone to camp will be required to turn in their phone on Monday morning at registration, and it will be returned on Saturday morning at dismissal.

State Camp
Week 1: Monday June 13, 10:30 AM – Saturday, June 18, 10:00 AM
Week 2: Monday June 20, 10:30 AM – Saturday, June 25, 10:00 AM

The State Camp experience provides lasting memories and the chance to make lifelong friends. Surrounded by nature, campers can disconnect from technology and focus on developing healthy living habits. Campers are assigned to a people group for afternoon and campfire activities.

2022 Camp Fee: $375.00
Campers must be 10 years old and not more than 19 years old on 6/1/22 to attend this camp.

Environmental Camp
Friday, June 10, 3:00 PM – Sunday, June 12, 10:00 AM
This experience allows campers to explore basic soil and environmental science information through hands-on discovery. Getting your hands dirty, exploring the forest, and looking for critters was never so much fun.
A variety of classes related to the environment will be available. Classes are taught by University of Delaware undergraduate and graduate students. Previous camp classes included topics such as “Is River Water Safe to Drink? and “Digging Up the Dirt on Soil Microbes.” New classes are developed every year. Each afternoon provides time for recreation, such as swimming and canoeing. You will be assigned to a group for afternoon and campfire activities.
2022 Camp Fee: $145.00
Campers must be 8 years old and not more than 12 years old on 6/1/22 to attend this camp.
