Dear 4-H Friends and Families,
I need to share an important update from the State 4-H Office that was shared earlier today.
“Unfortunately, we have not received approval of our plan that was submitted in regards to 4-H exhibits at the state fair and therefore, we will need to CANCEL the building set update scheduled for Thursday, July 2nd. We appreciate your willingness to come to assist with this work and apologize for having to cancel at this time. Future communication in regards to this matter will be forthcoming as soon as it is available. Thank you.”
This statement in no way affects the Delaware State Fair itself, just the 4-H program involvement, regarding the 4-H building Set-Up. As the statement indicates, additional information will be shared when it is available.
I imagine this will create many more questions, most of which I cannot answer at this time. As if our 4-Hers have not experienced enough disappointment from the last several months, there is a possibility that further disappointment could be felt over the next several weeks. I am optimistic at this point and hoping that the data points used by the University of Delaware and the State of Delaware, to make their decisions regarding restrictions, improve quickly. That’s something we all can hope for. As news and events unfold, we know that 4-H parents and leaders will continue to set good examples on how to deal with the emotions that come with disappointing life situations when they arise; adults are more experienced with these types of situations and young people look up to those adults around them. In 4-H, important life lessons are intertwined through 4-H work that teach skills such as humility, compassion, empathy, and appropriate and meaningful conversation. It’s also important to consider pros and cons in decision making, and practice dealing with decisions made by others, that might not align with our own.
In other news, it’s been a busy couple of weeks. The Cloverbud 4-H Camp program this week will be wrapping up tomorrow. Traditional (age) Camp will start on Monday, July 6th. Ms. Jenny has been in touch with participants about supplies. We have had fun visiting and leading our youngest 4-Hers through lessons and activities, and we are just as excited to get our older 4-H friends together next week!
Delaware State Fair 4-H Entry Tags have arrived and leaders are asked to contact Caroline or myself to set up pick up arrangements. Some leaders did pick up the tags today. Gate passes will be available shortly.
Next week, we will be sharing our NEW BLOG that has been an ongoing summer project. We think you will find it helpful to visit and find updates, announcements, and newsletter items filed neatly in this location. We will share a “how-to” on accessing the information you need. We have kept our users in mind when we designed it and think it will be a great resource.
We expect to reschedule many of the events that we’ve postponed, however, we have no concrete information at this time. We appreciate everyone’s continued flexibility as we navigate through a few days at a time.
I will be hosting a second “live update” on July 7, next Tuesday. You MUST register at the link below to receive the zoom link. Everyone is welcome to join.
There are a few more opportunities listed below, please read through the remainder of the message, and reach out to the 4-H office with any questions.
As July 4th approaches, and as we celebrate our nation’s independence, let us remember our past leaders who lost their lives in the battle for the freedom we are enjoying today. Have a safe and wonderful Independence Day!
Your friend in 4-H,
Kristin
