Association for Women in Math (AWM)
For the 2024-2025 academic year, I am the Treasurer of UD’s AWM chapter. I was previously the chapter’s President (2023-2024) and Vice President (2022-2023). I have helped coordinate professional development workshops for graduate and undergraduate students in STEM and hosted social events for members. Below I have included some of the events that we have hosted in the past that are representative of our regular semester events.
- Job Search Process Seminar: Two faculty members share advice on the academic job search process, with topics including submitting applications responsive to job ads, preparing for interviews, and engaging with the search committee.
- Mental Health and Wellbeing Panel: A panel of graduate students discuss how they have managed their mental health during graduate school and what tools and resources they have used to help. The panel is followed by an open discussion about graduate student mental health, in a safe space where all graduate students are welcome to participate.
- Coffee Hour and Discussion – National Labs: A visiting speaker from Los Alamos National Lab shares their experience working for a national lab and answers questions for students interested in a career path in research.
- Fall Mixer: This is an annual event that provides an opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students in STEM to get to know one another while enjoying food and a fun group activity. Previous events have included a movie screening and a fall-themed trivia game.
AWM Graduate Peer Mentorship Program
I help organize the AWM Graduate Peer Mentorship Program and have done so from 2022-2024. I have also served as a mentor to three first-year graduate students. The Peer Mentorship Program pairs first-year math graduate students with upper-year students in order to ease the transition to graduate school for first-year students and foster community among graduate students.
Math Circle
I am a co-founder and active participant in UD Math Department’s Math Circle Chapter. Math Circle is a recurring outreach event where we (math graduate students) visit local high schools and lead group activities in math problem-solving. We often work on math problems posed as puzzles or games. The program seeks to encourage high school aged students to pursue STEM fields.
Hallenbeck Graduate Student Seminar
I previously served as the co-organizer of the Hallenbeck Graduate Student Seminar (HGSS) from Fall 2022-Spring 2024. HGSS is a weekly seminar hosted by and for the graduate students. All students are invited to present talks on their research, internships, and summer schools. We also host panels on topics including prelims and candidacy exams.
