Mills Final Phase of Retirement

July 2023

We announced on January 27, 2016 our plans for the final year of the Mills high performance computing cluster. The cluster was proposed to have a 5-year life span that would end in conjunction with the 2016 calendar year. On July 1, 2019 all compute nodes still online (had not failed) and /lustre/scratch file system were shutdown. The head node, /lustre/work, /archive and /home file systems have remained online well beyond the date of January 1, 2020 to facilitate archival of important data off Mills file systems.

Date of importance:

  • July 2023: Mills head node and all file systems will be shutdown. All accounts will be deactivated and the mills-users google group will be removed.

All Mills users are urged to archive any remaining important data residing on file systems on Mills. As stated in the Mills End-of-Life Plan and Policies, IT has no plans to mass-migrate or provide retrieval of any data present in /lustre/work, /archive or home directories beyond July 2023.

Thank you to all the Mills cluster users who made Mills, the first high performance community cluster at the University of Delaware, a successful research platform and whose positive influence on the University has helped to build a HPC community.
