Need to get your iPad or iPhone screen to display on your Mac or PC and project to a big screen? Reflector can help you out with just that. You install the app on your laptop or desktop computer, then use AirPlay to mirror your iPhone 4s or iPad2’s (or newer) display.
AirPlay is what Apple uses to send and receive the video and sound from an iPad 2 or iPhone 4S to Apple TV. Basically Reflector turns your Mac or PC into an AirPlay receiver. You only need to buy the app for your computer, your iPad and iPhone have AirPlay built into its iOS.
You will be able to mirror/project your iPad without an Apple TV in the room. Additionally, with screen capture software installed on your Mac or PC, you’ll be able to record the action on your iPad/iPhone screen.
Reflector is super easy to set up, here are the instructions from their website.
- Download Reflector and copy it to your Applications folder.
- Open Reflector
- Double-tap the home button on your device (iPhone 4S or iPad 2)
- Swipe right on the multitask tray until you see the AirPlay icon next to the volume slider.
- Tap this and select your Mac from the list.
- Last, toggle the “Mirror” switch
The AirPlay icon looks like this:
There are a two pricing options to choose from, single user at this point is just under 15 dollars. There is a 10 minute trial version you can download and test before buying. Also remember you need newer devices that include AirPlay in order to use this App )iPhone 4s or iPad 2 or higher.
