Two Down, Three to Go

This weekend was our second full weekend in Spain. I can’t believe how time has already flown by. I have had such an amazing time here, and I know I still have plenty of time before I’m forced to go home.

Watching soccer (futbol) games here is a very different experience from back home. Regardless of who is playing, everyone is much more excited. It’s great being able to grab a drink with friends and watch the game together and not get looked at sideways for being excited about the sport.

On Saturday, along with some friends I ventured to Salobrena Playa, a gorgeous beach due south of Granada. It was definitely different from the beaches I am used to. Instead of sand, there were pebbles for the beach! Although I didn’t mind too much, the pebbles get much hotter than sand, meaning you have to stay on your towel or risk getting burned. A positive aspect about them is that without sand being churned up, the water is crystal clear, even out when there is 15+ feet of water below! I tried to get a picture, and you can see my feet clearly through about three and a half feet of water. We spent a lot of time relaxing on the beach and playing in the water before we finally had to catch a bus back.

As you can see, the water was crystal clear!

Today was the trip to Cordoba. Most of the trip consisted of a tour of la Mezquita, a mosque turned chapel by the Catholics who reconquered Spain from the Moors. It was a hot day, and everyone was suffering a little. Fortunately though, our bus didn’t break down and we made it there and back without a problem. There was a lot of history to see, and we also had some time to browse the shops a bit which was nice.

Among all the grandeur in the Mezquita, this was one of my favorite views.

At this point in time, all I can say about my time in Spain is that I’m having a great time, and can’t wait to see what is waiting for me this next week. I’m looking forward to Corpus Christi and the celebrations that come along with it, as well as the later matches of the World Cup!
