“The It-List of Summer Hits” by Abigail McGraw

As any former high school performing arts student will tell you, music is a way of life. While I’ve moved away from orchestra and Broadway musicals since high school, my Spotify Wrapped will clearly show that I’m still entrenched in music. The “I listen to everything” cliché is almost true when it comes to my music taste, and while I’m not proclaiming myself the end-all-be-all of critiquing music, I do have some ideas of what good music is.

I can’t predict every music shift that we’ll see over the course of the summer, what with TikTok trends rapidly falling in and out of style, the boundless music releases to come, and whatever Emma Chamberlain decides is trendy. However, we are already seeing some clear front runners for those summer nights and road trips. Continue reading

“Endeavors of a New DoorDasher” by Rachel Gray

With the elongated winter break, I took up a new hobby. For quite some time now, I’ve wanted a new car. There’s nothing wrong with Sasha, my 1995 Chevrolet, black Corsica, but technically, she’s not mine. The car is under my sister’s name, and I just pay her the car insurance. Now, though, I think it’s time to start looking for something new to help me save up.

I started looking at DoorDash when the pandemic began way back when. I had heard by word of mouth that it pays superbly well, and that people love the job. Once my parents pulled me from working at the retirement home in March, I didn’t have a job for a while. Though I was looking for other opportunities, it was a challenge to find suitable jobs for a minor since I was only 17 at the time. When I researched DoorDash, I saw that it, too, didn’t allow underaged workers. With that, I set it to the back burner for the time being.  Continue reading

“A Path Through the Forest” by Alex Stone

As Honors students, I think we all have experienced that spark for learning, that love for all things we do not yet understand, but seek to discover at some point in our lives. It was what set us upon this path to seek higher education and become Honors students. It is the drive to uncover mysteries and discover all that is amazing in this world. I know, for me, it was in my middle school life sciences class where I first felt that spark, that fascination with living things and life. I wanted to discover all that I could about the human body and understand how we all started from something so small and became what we are now. Continue reading

“Learning How to Say No” by Rachel Gray

These are unprecedented times with loads of uncertainty, whether that be with grades, work, relationships, or home life. Everything has been up in the air. If you’re like me, you’ve been feeling “bleh” a lot recently, mostly from our situations right now. Like many others, online schooling has taken a toll on my mental health, so finding the positives in this trying time has been super important. At this current point in the semester, staying motivated might seem super difficult, but it’s not impossible. Continue reading

“Transitioning to a Spring Semester Mindset” by Abigail McGraw

Winter break was a time of relaxation and relief from a tough fall semester. While we couldn’t travel and see family for the holidays, my family and I still made the most of our time off. I continued to work with the First-Year Fellows, and we organized some amazing programs over the winter to stay engaged with the Honors community while on break. I also participated in the E-52 virtual production of Check Please! directed by Heidi Fliegelman and Christine Marchesano.

But if you’re anything like me, you probably spent most of the winter break sleeping in, playing with pets, and living a mostly unstructured life. I didn’t take any winter courses, which left me no choice but to play Animal Crossing and nap on the couch with my dog. Suffice to say, I haven’t exactly been disciplined in keeping a routine as of late, which was slightly problematic as the Spring semester rapidly approached. Continue reading
