Another semester here at UD means another opportunity to attend the plays put on by the REP. My freshman year I took an honors theatre course that introduced me to the university’s outstanding productions. Since attending those two mandatory plays, I have purchased season tickets and make sure to see every play the REP offers every year.

Just last week, my roommate and I attended God of Carnage. The play was shown in the smaller theatre, creating a perfectly intimate setting that worked great for the play. We made sure to get there as soon as the doors opened, determined to get the best seats our General Admission tickets offered. We wound up in the third row from the set and just stared at the scene in front of us for several minutes, pointing and admiring the design. Since the play only takes place in one room, the entire stage was a simple, yet stunning living area. The furniture was fit for a middle class family, with artistic and tribal art along the walls that my roommate wanted to “steal and put in our room.” As devoted REP fans, we excitedly flipped through the playbill and silently screamed when we saw the cast had some of our favorite actors. We sat and waited for the lights to dim like we were back in Manhattan waiting for Hamilton to start.

The play was a perfect combination of drama, romance, and comedy that had the audience captivated every second. Being in such a small space, we could see every reaction of the crowd sitting around us, and their facial expressions matched ours. The clash of the two married couples, staggeringly different in costume, class, and ideals, had the theatre gasping, cringing, and laughing all in unison. It was the perfect way to spend our Friday night, and we are already counting down the days until we get to see another show.

If I could recommend one thing for new students (or anyone, really) to do for a different, fun night out, it would be to head over to the Center For The Arts and see a fabulous show. Not only are the tickets reasonably priced, but students get a generous discount if they pay with their ID. Also, as members of the Honors Program, students are given the opportunity to stop by 186 South College and pick up free tickets that are offered for certain shows. Make sure you do not hesitate to buy or grab tickets because the shows sell out extremely fast! Do yourself a favor and spend a night watching the brilliant work of the REP Company—I promise, it will be worth it.
