COMMITTEE TOPIC:

Child Marriages

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), is one of many organizations established for humanitarian relief directed specifically at enhancing and protecting the wellbeing of children alongside creating dialogue on how to prevent child marriage across the globe. Statistics show that between the years 2011 and 2020, nearly 140,000,000 children (a vast majority of which being girls) were forced into marriage, meaning that there are a projected 39,000 marriages per day (UN Women Child Marriages). Though a vast majority of these cases are located in the Middle East and Africa, some parts of Asia (including India) and South America, countries such as the United States and several parts of Europe also have issues pertaining to Child Marriage. Delegates representing the international community will review these troubling statistics and devise all encompassing resolutions to curb child marriages.
