Italy: Photographing my Friends in Rome

Submitted by Lydia Fimmano on the 2022 winter session program in Italy sponsored by the Department of Philosophy…

Studying abroad in Rome, Italy has been the best experience of my life. Everyday, I see sights that I have only read about or seen pictures of and to be here in person is amazing. Furthermore, I never expected to become so close to such an amazing group of people. On day three of our time in Rome, I asked them if they would be ok if I started documenting our trip by taking “dispo” pictures. This is an app where you take pictures and then they “develop” at 9am the next day with a film-like style to them. It has been so special to get to be the “photographer” on this program and to get to capture photos of my friends throughout Rome. A big shoutout to them for letting me shove my phone camera in their face constantly! Seeing everyone’s excitement when I add the new photos to our shared photo album is so fun to me and I am glad that I can give back to the people that are making this experience so amazing for me. I wouldn’t want to be on this crazy journey with anyone else!
