Hawaii: Environment Week

Submitted by Emily Black on the 2022 winter session program in Hawaii sponsored by the College of Health Sciences…

This week, we focused on the environment, which is super enjoyable when I’m in one of the most beautiful places in the world. The first day of the “environment week” we went on a sunrise hike at Diamond Head, which gave us amazing views of the ocean and the city of Honolulu. Then, we went to the Waimea Botanical Gardens which was a self guided tour that ended in a waterfall! I jumped in and the water was FREEZING, but it was so fun to swim around with my group. The next day, we went on a whale watching tour, which really got our adrenaline going. We had such a great time learning about the whales and running around the ship spotting them. Out of scheduled class excursions, a small group of us decided to go on a catamaran at sunset and it was so scenic and really made us appreciate the environment as we took in the views.
