Italy: Three Coins in a Fountain

Submitted by Jake Schneider on the 2022 winter session program in Italy sponsored by the Department of Philosophy…

Walking up to the massive 20 meters long 26 meters high Trevi Fountain was jaw dropping. It is by far the most beautiful fountain I have ever seen, as its origins date back to as early as 19 B.C. The Trevi Fountain caught me by surprise because just like many other historical landmarks in Italy, you turn the corner and a beautifully constructed piece of art is right in front of you! The Trevi Fountain also has a cool myth people participate in, where throwing one coin in the fountain will return you to Rome, throwing two coins will have you fall in love with an Italian, and throwing three coins will have you marry the person you met! It is estimated that a million euros are collected from the fountain each year and it gets donated towards a good cause!
