Do you have a favorite movie or game??

Hello, all.  I’m working on a “Staff favorites” movies/game list for use above the carrel box at the desk or as a display.  So, do you have a favorite movie/movies/game?  Let me know what they are!  Sound like fun?  Then, participate and send those titles to me!

Due dates; e-videos/DVD

Happy Friday!  There are two things that I wanted to bring to your attention today:

First: “Recently, a user checked out a DVD that was booked by an instructor for an upcoming screening. The DVD was given a truncated due date (it was due immediately), but it appears that the user wasn’t made aware of this, and it’s now overdue. Staff has to scramble to communicate the oversight to the user, who likely expected a longer check-out period. Hopefully we will be able to get the DVD back in time for the screening. If we don’t, we have to cancel the screening, which is poor service — especially for someone who planned ahead (and their students). So please:

*** Read the due date OUT LOUD to our users.***

And check, if the user is taking multiple titles with them, for any outliers that may have truncated due dates. Speaking the dates out loud can help us realize when an odd date pops up.

As always, please let staff know if you have any questions.”

Update: this one had a very happy ending in that the user returned the title right away so the screening went off as planned.  This has not always been the case in the past so let’s “nip it in the bud” by saying the due date out loud and checking each due date when there are multiple items being checked out.

Second: Did you know that we have DVDs of a lot of our e-video content?  You probably don’t because DELCAT only lists the e-video in a quick search!  If someone is looking for the DVD of a title listed in DELCAT as an e-video, click on the “all editions and formats”.  If we have the DVD, it will be listed there and you can click on it for the call number.  Another way to find it is to limit the search to “DVD”.  Again, if you ever have any questions or problems finding something (especially if you or the user are pretty sure we have it!), staff is ready to help.

Have a great weekend and keep up the good work!

National Library Week – Show your “Library Love”!!

“This week is National Library Week! The Communication and Space Planning team is placing packs of heart-shaped sticky notes in a few places in the Library starting today –such as a few dry erase boards and at some service desks.  We’ll have signs that ask Library users to “Show the Library Love” by writing a thank you or a compliment to help us celebrate and to post it somewhere in the Library. If you are helping someone at a service desk and receive a compliment, you may want to ask if that person would “show the Library some love” and offer them a heart post-it.”

We are one of the service desks who have some heart shaped post-it notes!  Feel free to write a note showing your own “library love” and encourage our patrons to do the same, then post it anywhere in the library.  Show your library some love!!

New Procedure beginning 4/2

Hi, folks.  I know you are all looking forward to Spring Break next week but I wanted to give you a heads up for when you return.  Enjoy your week of rest!  See you back at work beginning Easter Sunday, 4/1 at 1pm.

New procedure!  Beginning 4/2, when you return from Spring Break, each student will use their own sign-in for WMS during their shift. This means that you will need to sign in to WMS on the check-out and check-in computer when you arrive for your shift and sign-out of both when you leave.  No worries, staff will show you how to do this beginning on Monday, 4/2.  This is a practice that is used at other public service desks in the library and that we are implementing here at F&V.
