January 18th, Tacaruna Garden Dan and Morgan

Today most of the day was spent in the van on our way to our hotel in Inhotim. On the way to the hotel we stopped by a home and garden originally designed Roberto Burle Marx called Tacaruna. This garden was in a little town called Petropolis. Tacaruna was under repair at the moment since it had been somewhat neglected after Burle Marx had passed away. For this reason the lake was drained, however it was still a pretty amazing sight. There were colorful waves of flowers, plenty of trees and paths throughout the garden. We were told by Cecilia that the front of the house landscape represents the “woman side” which had a very curvy design to it, while the back of the house was the “man side” which had straight lines and square designs. Despite the difficulties with this incredibly long travel day, it was well worth it when we got to the hotel and had one of the best meals we have had this entire trip.
