After a long week of work, we celebrated with a safari trip to Liwonde National Park! Our eyelids were heavy when our 5am alarm went off, but when our driver, Konduani, arrived playing “Everyday” by Logic on full blast, we knew it was going to be a good day! The drive to the park was filled with singing, and a stop at a junction to purchase Mandazis (dough balls) and soda for snacks. While driving through the park, we saw elephants, warthogs, gazelle, impala, baboons, and even 2 lions (a very rare sighting)! We arrived at Mvuu Camp, where we took a boat tour along the Sheer River and spotted many hippos, birds, crocodiles, and more elephants coming for a drink. Back at Mvuu camp, we enjoyed learning a new Malawian game, Bowa, which quickly became a team favorite. The drive home was lit by the setting African sun. We taught Konduani some American hit songs, such as Bohemian Rhapsody and ABBA. The rest of the trip can be seen in the beautiful pictures below.
