I have had several students ask how to share an ePortfolio that is private. Sites at the University’s Google Apps service, Sites at Google.com, and WordPress at WordPress.com all have a Sharing option. If you have set the privacy setting to be Private instead of Public, you can add an email address for anyone with whom you wish to share your site. (Image below is from a Google Site.)
One thing to remember: because your site is Private, when a user with whom you have shared your ePortfolio receives the email invitation to view it, he or she may be asked to create an account either in Google or in WordPress depending on which tool you are using (if they already have an account with the invited email address, they will just be asked to sign in).1 For an ePortfolio you may be sharing with a future employer, this is something you should consider when deciding whether to make it public or private.
Invitation messages look something like the following:
Google Sites:
WordPress:
1. The email address you use to share your site may or may not be associated with your invitee’s current Google or WordPress account. Google site users can check to make sure the email address used is one that is listed in their Google Profile. For WordPress users, if the address used is not the same one, they will have to create another account.
