Has a student asked you to change the status of a matrix cell because they submitted the wrong artifact or perhaps put it in the wrong place. Once a student has submitted an artifact in a matrix cell and clicked on Submit Cell for Evaluation, they cannot make any further changes. The cell is put in a Pending state for the students, which means they are awaiting feedback from the instructor.
It is possible to reset the status in any matrix cell. If you change the status to Ready or Returned, it will allow the student to go in and modify the work they submitted including editing what was there or removing it to start over.
If you (the instructor) have the correct permissions, you can make this change yourself. Go into the Matrices tool in your portfolio site and click the matrix title. Once in the matrix, you will see your own view of the matrix. Your must select the user of the matrix you want to reset. There are two drop-down boxes: Select group (if you are using groups) and Select user (see image below).
Select the appropriate group and user from these lists. The user’s matrix will load, and you should see a new page with the name of the site ( Read Only) and the user’s name across the top. Once in your student’s matrix, click the cell you want to reset. At the top, next to the Tool Options menubar, select Manage Status. Make sure you leave the default option For this user only selected. Change the status to Ready or Returned and click Continue. Select Return to the matrix if needed. You should see that the color status indicator for that cell has changed to green for Ready or dark purple for Returned. Your student can now go back in and make corrections.
