The University of Delaware (UD) Institute for Engineering Driven Health (IEDH) is a cluster of innovators who develop and translate new technologies to advance human health. IEDH innovators engineer designs across multiple scales (from the subcellular to whole human level) and integrate disciplines spanning biomaterials to biomechanics to create transformative solutions to pressing healthcare needs. Mr. Daniel Watson is the Deputy Athletic Director for Sports Performance & Campus Recreation in the Department of Athletics at UD. The primary mission of UD Sport Performance is to improve student athleticism specific to their sport/position while keeping them healthy so they can positively impact team performance during competition.

Project Goal Statement:
The goal of this project is to develop a way to reduce the force required by the calf muscles during athletic movement for people recovering from an Achilles or calf muscle injury in order to expedite the return to play timeline.
