204: Piezoelectric Actuator for Medical Imaging
Team Members:
Abigail Caridi, Colin Horger, Cathleen Fisher, David Kelly
Sponsor: UD BMEG: Curtis Johnson and Sabrina Vander Wiele
Sponsor Description:
Dr. Johnson’s research focuses on measuring brain tissue mechanical properties with MRI through a technique called magnetic resonance elastography (MRE). Brain MRE can be performed on living human brains with clinical MRI scanners or on rodent brains with preclinical animal scanners, both of which we have at UD. The purpose of preclinical brain MRE is to understand how brain mechanics change in models of neurological disease so it can inform the application to the human brain.
Faculty Advisor: Ashutosh Khandha
Presentation Time: 12:45-1:15
Room #: Room 125
Project Goal Statement:
The goal of this project is to develop an effective way of delivering vibrations to rodents to measure the mechanical properties of healthy and neurodegenerative brain tissue using magnetic resonance elastography (MRE).
