The SALC (Self-Access Learning Center) began full operation in September 1994. It was created to provide access to computers and other technology to ELI students without having to wait in long lines (such as in the library or in Smith Hall) and WITH a facilitator present all the times to instruct in all areas of using computers including basic instruction.

Students are required to work only in English when in the SALC as there are any number of computing sites on campus where they can work in their own languages. The SALC is an extension of the ELI classroom and we therefore feel that it is vital to their second language development to use this facility for the purpose of practicing English.
