Sarah Petersen, assistant professor, has been at the English Language Institute since 2002. She has taught a broad range of English learners, most notably in the ELI’s intensive English, foreign teacher training, and public school ELL programs.
Petersen received her bachelor’s degree with honors from the College of Letters at Wesleyan University, a master’s degree in education from Washington University in St. Louis, and a second master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
Petersen began her English teaching career in the Peace Corps at a high school in the Central African Republic, where she lived for five years. Next she and her husband established a private center for English instruction in French Guiana (South America). There Petersen taught English at all proficiency levels and to all age groups for ten years until returning to the States to join the ELI faculty.
