Looking to the future – Dr. Stevens and UD visit Greece

February 12, 2018

In mid-January 2018, University of Delaware (UD) English Language Institute (ELI) Director Scott Stevens, accompanied by a delegation including UD President Dennis Assanis, First Lady Eleni Assanis, George Watson, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and a cohort including additional UD deans, directors and department chairs, traveled to Athens, Greece for a visit to raise UD’s profile among high schools and universities in the area.

Dr. Stevens Greece trip

During this visit, Stevens pursued opportunities for cooperation between the University of Delaware and Athens’ colleges and top private schools. Most importantly, Stevens used the opportunity to promote UD’s undergraduate programs, making presentations to students and guidance counselors at numerous schools and colleges: the Pierce School on the campus of the American College of Greece, Athens College, American Community Schools of Athens, the Moraitis School and  Ziridis School.

In Greece, “college” can refer to high school, often with an International Baccalaureate curriculum; an exception to this is the American College of Greece.  This institution also adds 27 undergraduate majors and several graduate degree programs, including the Alba Graduate Business School to its secondary business offerings.

Stevens was pleased with the interest that students showed, particularly for the Language Adventure USA and Edge-ELI programs; how the trip laid the foundation for some potential institutional relationships in the area and how we hope to increase our recruitment activities in the region in the near future.
