BIOGRAPHY

Shauna Leahy is a fifth-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware. Her research interests include the family, the elderly, and caregiving; health and social isolation; as well as how all of those come together in disaster situations. She holds a B.S. in Sociology from the University of Scranton, with minors in Criminology and Philosophy, and a M.A. in Sociology from the University of Delaware. Shauna currently works as a graduate research assistant at the Center for Drug and Health Studies at the University of Delaware and is also a graduate student affiliate with the Disaster Research Center there. She has successfully defended her Master’s thesis on “Sandwich Generation Caregiving During the COVID-19 Pandemic” and passed her comprehensive exams in the areas of the Sociology of Health and Disasters and Environmental Sociology. She is currently working on her dissertation to obtain her PhD and finish the program. In her spare time, Shauna enjoys hanging out with her cats, tending to her houseplants, and listening to true crime podcasts.
