Delaware local agency personnel that registered early for the Roadway Management Conference (RMC) were entered into a drawing for two free registrations and we drew our winners on August 29.  Wally the Work Zone Warrior stopped by the office to officiate and help announce our winners (he’s a bit of a ham when the camera comes out).  Congratulations to Robin Eaton (City of Dover) and Rick Melendez (City of Lewes), each of whom won a free registration for the RMC!

Rick, Robin, and others will join colleagues from a five state area October 21-23 in Ellicott City, Maryland.  The number of Delaware folks registered for the conference is climbing rapidly, but the early bird discount only lasts until September 20 and the lollygagging must end so that the whining doesn’t start (“waaah, I had to pay more!”).

If you aren’t careful, you are going to pay a little more or miss out altogether and you’re going to feel silly when the reports come back about how great it was…again.  If you were at last year’s RMC, you already know that it’s an excellent opportunity for technical sessions, equipment and material displays, and demonstrations, as well as to meet new colleagues from municipal, county, and state road agencies across the region.  If you haven’t been to an RMC, you owe it to your agency to come have a look.

The RMC (https://roadwaymanagementc.wixsite.com/home) is the brainchild of our five state region (WV, PA, VA, MD, DE) of LTAP and T2 Centers.  As you see from the photos on the website, the typically 200+ attendees are primarily road operations and maintenance folks at the municipal, county, and state level.  In addition to technical sessions, we feed attendees a steady diet of outdoor displays and demonstrations, because we know you like to touch stuff and kick the tires before you will use it.  Oh, and in case you were wondering, we literally feed you also – you will see all kinds of breakfasts, lunches, break snacks, and a reception on the agenda – all included in the registration price!

The conference is an action packed three days to be sure, but there’s a little time carved out for fun also and we see a lot of smiling faces at the RMC.  For that matter, if you are a golfer, why not arrive at Turf Valley Resort a day early or stay on afterwards to take advantage of the guest and group golf rates?  See our RMC website for details.  For relaxation fans, the Spa at Turf Valley will honor a 10% discount if you mention the Roadway Management Conference.

See the RMC website for further descriptions, details, and registration links.  If you have questions, contact Sandi Wolfe at (302) 831-4094 or at sandiw@udel.edu.
