Lab Facilities
Location: 216 Tower at STAR
Our Human Cardiovascular Phenotyping Lab, located in the STAR Tower, is well equipped to make many measures of cardiovascular function for your research studies. We can assess conduit artery function using an ultrasound to measure brachial artery flow-mediated dilation. We can assess arterial stiffness and perform pulse wave analysis. We are able to perform cardiac imaging and measures of carotid intima media-thickness. We can also assess heart rate and blood pressure variability in response to physiological perturbations that influence sympathetic activity.
We perform these measures in a wide range of individuals from apparently healthy to various clinical populations. We can also perform these measures in children through young and middle-aged adults to older adults. Our staff have over 8 years of experience.
If you are interested in having our staff perform vascular measures for your research, please select the Contact button below and briefly explain what services you are interested in. We will contact you to set up a meeting with our Staff.
Excercise Testing Lab
Location: 109A Health Sciences Complex
Our exercise testing lab is located in the Nurse Managed Primary Care Center in the STAR Health Sciences Complex and is well equipped to perform maximal and submaximal treadmill tests in both healthy and clinical populations. For those individuals with balance issues, we have a safety harness to ensure participant safety during the test. Our GE treadmill and case system are new (2023). Tests are performed by a certified clinical exercise physiologist with medical oversight by a Nurse Practitioner. We capture heart rate, blood pressure, and ECG during the test which can be read by a cardiologist through the Nurse Managed Primary Care Center.

Cell Culture Lab
Location: Nurse Managed Primary Care Clinic
Our cell culture space is well equipped for processing and growing primary cell lines and working with human cells. Our lab includes a laminar flow hood, incubator, cell counter, and inverted light microscope. The lab space is located in an enclosed room where workspaces are regularly sterilized and has a single entry and exit point. All staff are trained to follow appropriate aseptic and biosafety practices.
