Dear UD students – –

As Director of the CCSD and as a person, I am disturbed and sickened by the recent murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Aubrey, Tony McDade and Breonna Taylor.

Unfortunately, their deaths remind of us of how often tragedies like these happen in our country and neighborhoods. The deaths add new names to a horrible list but not new consequences to racism and the pervasiveness of racism against Black and Brown people. Events like these and the protests in so many cities weigh heavily on everyone, especially Black and Brown people.

I encourage each of you to care for yourselves in the best ways you can. If you are a white person, identifying ways to support your Black and Brown friends, classmates and neighbors and letting everyone know that what is happening is not okay with you.

To everyone – I want you to know that we are here for you. The counseling center is available M-F from 8-4:30 – – call us (302-831-2141) to speak with someone if you think it could be useful.  Be gentle with yourself.
