Parking & Travel

Delaware Stadium Address

The University of Delaware Spring Commencement will take place in Delaware Stadium, located at 625 South College Avenue, Newark, DE 19711 (Latitude: 39.6617095460852, Longitutde: -75.7494296988555).

Parking and Shuttles

To help facilitate parking and travel during commencement and convocation, several shuttle buses will be running between the UD Science, Technology & Advanced Research Campus and some of the commencement and convocation venues. There will be golf carts shuttles running between some parking lot and bus stops and event venues to assist guests with difficulty walking. For more information about the shuttles, please see the shuttle bus section.

RV parking is only available in the STAR Campus lot. Overnight parking is not permitted.

Handicapped parking will be available at the front of the stadium. You will need a handicapped plate, decal, placard or disabled veterans plate to park in the handicapped parking section. Handicapped parking at the front of the stadium is accessible from 896/S College Ave.

In addition to handicapped parking close to the stadium, all parking shuttle buses are handicapped accessible. If you arrive after all the handicapped parking spaces are full, please park in the STAR Campus lot and take the shuttle right to the stadium.

There are several privately owned parking lots very close to the stadium. These lots are not UD property. Please do not park in any privately owned lots. The lot owners may tow you at your own risk and expense. There is ample parking in the Athletic Complex and the STAR Campus. Please do not risk a ticket or a tow by parking on private property even if it seems closers or easier. The shuttle bus will drop you off close to the stadium and return you close to your car.

Convocation Parking

Parking for commencement and convocations is complementary. Please see the convocation table < LINK> for recommended parking for each event. If you will be parking in one of the campus parking garages, please see below. Please remember that parking in designated handicap spaces requires a handicapped plate, placard, decal, hang tag or disabled veteran plate.

If you are parking in the Trabant Garage (17C), the Center for the Arts Garage (14C), or the Perkins Center Garage (4C) before 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016, you will be required to take a ticket, but you will not be charged when exiting. The exit gates will be in the up position. After 9:00 a.m. on Friday, 27, 2016 you will not need a ticket to enter the garage.

If you are parking in the Trabant Garage (17C), the Center for the Arts Garage (14C), or the Perkins Center Garage (4C) before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, 28, 2016 you will not need a ticket to enter the garage. If you leave your car in the garage after 10:00 p.m. you will have to call 302-831-2222 to exit the garage. To avoid having to call for assistance exiting the garage, please move your car from the garage before 10:00 p.m. even if you will be staying on campus or going out to dinner.

Handicapped parking is very limited. Please use the handicapped parking only if you need it. You must have a handicap or disabled veteran plate, placard, decal, or hang-tag to use handicapped parking.

The handicapped drop off location in Lot 24 is for drop-off ONLY. There is NO PARKING in Lot 24. Golf cart shuttles will be available at the handicapped drop off location for individuals with difficulty walking.

Friday, May 27, 2016 – IMPORTANT NOTES

The university is open for normal business as well as convocations on Friday, May 27, 2016. Parking for the following convocations will be restricted, so all guests are strongly encouraged to take the shuttle bus. The bus will run on a ten to fifteen minute cycle, please allow yourself plenty of time.

Parking during business hours will be very restricted. Guests attending the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, Fashion and Apparel Studies, History, Honors Degree Medal Ceremony, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, and Languages, Literatures and Cultures convocations are strongly encouraged to take the STAR Parking Shuttle. All shuttle buses are handicapped accessible and will drop you off very close to the venue. The Parking Shuttle – shows the shuttle stops for the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, Fashion and Apparel Studies, History, Honors Degree Medal Ceremony, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, and Languages, Literatures and Cultures convocations. The Lot 19 Shuttle Map shows the shuttle stops for the English and the Psychological and Brain Sciences convocations.

Handicapped parking for Fashion and Apparel Studies (Pearson Hall – 12:30 p.m.) is available in a reserved section of Lot 53 located close to the intersection of Academy St. and Lovett Ave. General parking will not be available in Lot 53 at 12:30 p.m. If you need general parking please park in the UD Science, Technology & Advanced Research (STAR) Lot and take the shuttle bus to Pearson Hall. The Lot 53 Handicapped Parking Map shows the section of Lot 53 that has been reserved for handicapped parking.

Saturday, May 28, 2016 – IMPORTANT NOTES

If you are attending Commencement AND the Convocation, please leave your car parked where it is and walk from the stadium to the Bob Carpenter Center. If you are attending only the Convocation, please park in the UD Science, Technology & Advanced Research Campus parking lot and take the shuttle buses to the Bob Carpenter Center. The parking shuttle runs directly from the parking lot to the stadium. All the shuttle buses are handicapped accessible, so if you or a member of your party has difficulty walking you can take the shuttle and be dropped off very close to the convocation. After convocation is over, you can take the parking shuttle back to your car.

Please park in the UD Science, Technology & Advanced Research Campus parking lots and take the shuttle buses to the Bob Carpenter Center. The parking shuttle runs directly from the parking lots to the stadium. All the shuttle buses are handicapped accessible, so if you or a member of your party has difficulty walking you can take the shuttle and be dropped off very close to the convocation. After convocation is over, you can take the parking shuttle back to your car.

Parking Shuttles

There will also be golf cart shuttles running between several parking locations and event venues, so if you or your guest has any difficulty walking, just look for one of the golf carts or a golf cart shuttle sign. There will also be a shuttle running between Lot 19 and the Carpenter Sports Building to server the events in that venue.

All shuttle buses are handicapped accessible and will drop you off close to your events. There are golf cart shuttle stops close to each shuttle bus stop, so if you would like to take a golf cart shuttle, just look for one right around where you exit the shuttle bus.

The stops and times for the shuttles buses are different on Friday and Saturday. Please read the table and map carefully. The stop numbers in the table below refer to the stops on the shuttle map, not parking lot or building identifiers.

Alumni Delegates

Alumni Delegates should park in Lot 106 behind the Bob Carpenter Center (take Sincock Lane off of Route 4). A map is located on the back of your parking pass. You must show your Alumni Delegate parking pass to park.

Convocation Travel

Traffic leaving the stadium immediately following commencement will be heavy. If your convocation does not immediately follow commencement, please wait before leaving to improve traffic for everyone.
