The Confucius Institute cordially invites you to the Spring Semester China Forum Lecture Series. The series will begin with a lecture from Ms. Feihong Song, a renowned Peking Opera Performing Artist. She will talk about the stories on her life journey with Peking Opera.
Ms. Song is the daughter of renowned Peking Opera artist Song Baoluo. Under her father’s influence, Song started formal Peking Opera training, as well as studying calligraphy, seal-carving, and musical instruments such as pipa, from a very young age. Song immigrated to the United States in 1988 and, since then, has had a career as an accomplished entrepreneur and businesswomen. Song is the founder and owner of the famous Xinhua Bookstore in Philadelphia, the first bookstore in the nation featuring books with simplified Chinese characters, as well as Shanghai Home, a store to promote Chinese culture. Song once served as the Vice President of the Greater Philadelphia United Chinese American Chamber Of Commerce, and on the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Chinese Opera Society. In recent years, Song has been actively promoting Peking Opera through a variety of exhibitions, lectures, and performances in the region and is frequently invited to perform Peking Opera across the nation.
