(Series not offered in Spring 2023; check again soon for updates on when it will resume!)
Cooking fires happen often, are very dangerous and can easily be avoided. Cook, Learn, Eat provides information on kitchen safety and hands-on cooking practice. Even better? It’s free for students living in UD residence halls!
What will I learn?
Have you ever microwaved Easy Mac without adding water? Forgotten something in the oven? Yikes!
You’ll learn how to avoid some common kitchen mistakes, as well as tips to cook safely. TIP: Did you know your pot size should match the size of the burner?
What will I eat?
Based on the class theme, you’ll make everything from frittatas and falafel to enchiladas and chocolate chip cookies. All recipes are chosen based on taste and nutrition – they are also quick and easy to prepare!
Have food allergies? No problem! There are always a variety of vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options.
Cook, Learn, Eat classes are taught by undergraduate students studying nutrition at UD.
The Cook, Learn, Eat series
There are two classes offered as a part of the series – stove top safety and oven/microwave safety. Each class includes:
- a brief presentation on cooking safety based on the theme
- Hands-on cooking in small groups of 2 – 3 people
- Sharing what’s been prepared and eating!
Don’t worry – ingredients, recipes, and cooking tools are provided. Novice cooks, we want you! Our amazing nutrition students are there to help with each step of the recipe.
