It’s hard to believe that summer is coming to an end already… the Fromen lab has had a productive summer working with our awesome summer students and we are very proud of all they have accomplished!

Current Fromen lab undergraduates Saurav and Joaquina both completed their Summer Scholar’s virtual posters this past week.

Saurav worked with senior graduate student Emily Kolewe and his poster was titled “Studying interpatient variability by modeling aerosol particle deposition in pediatric airways”.

Joaquina worked at the interface of the 3D printing and call culture groups this summer, pioneering a new project area. Her poster was titled “Design of 3D pritned devices for pre-metered doses of nebulized drugs on cells cultured at the air-liquid interface”. A link to her poster video can be found here.

Congrats to both of you on your awesome work this summer and looking forward to more fun in the lab this upcoming year!

The Fromen lab was also lucky to host UD Rise Academy scholar Emmanuel Ortiz for an Experiential Learning opportunity in the group. Emmanuel is an incoming Chemical Engineering freshman who worked with Fromen lab graduate students as he prepared to start his first year of college at UD. With the lab, Emmanuel learned how to synthesize nanoparticles, honed his pipette skills, 3D printed his own part, and was able to gain first hand research experience. On Friday, he gave a presentation of his experience at the UD Rise Closing Ceremony.

Congrats Emmanuel on an awesome job this summer! We wish you lots of luck on starting your college career in a few short weeks and hope to see you back in the lab soon!

Finally, we have a big congratulations to incoming graduate student, Jodi Graf for her contributions this summer. She worked with graduate student Emma Sudduth synthesizing nanoparticles for on-going research in the group, while also pioneering two new project pilots to bring the group into new directions.

Congrats on an awesome summer Jodi! We hope you had a great experience in the Fromen lab and wish you luck starting your PhD program this fall!

Last but not least in our summer round up, the Fromen lab gathered at the end of July for a summer lab retreat at Lums Pond. We worked together on crafting a shared lab values statement and brainstormed collaborative research projects together. (Check out our finalized statement on our Values page). We also played some goofy team building games and mastered walking across lines in synchronized fashion (which is harder than it looks!). Overall it was a great experience and a lot of fun was had by all!

Thanks team for your hard work this summer and looking forward to a great year ahead!
