State and National Standards
Delaware Standards for Geography which were updated in 2016 utilize a spiral approach, which means that core concepts taught at early elementary levels develop in complexity as students go through successive grades. Delaware’s Geography Standards closely mirror the National Geography Standards which contain eighteen (18) core concepts across six (6) essential areas.
Understanding how the National Standards connect to the Delaware Standards can help teachers seeking greater understanding of the core concepts of each geography standard.
