In the Archer’s group, we conduct research about:
1) Air quality modeling (Moghani, Golbazi):
- Effects of COVID-19 mobility restrictions on air quality in the U.S.;
- Importance of transport and ships to ozone in Delaware;
- Links between climate change, ozone, and human health in Delaware.
2) Wind turbine wakes (Wu, Ma, Khanjari, Feroz):
- The VERTEX field campaign and modeling study on vertical mixing by wind turbines;
- Optimization of wind farm layout;
- The WiTTS model (Wind Turbine and Turbulence Simulator);
- Compressibility effects in air flow around wind turbines;
- Other topics (stability, vertical staggering, counter-rotating turbines, hub-height optimization, wake steering via yaw control).
3) Links between energy and food in the US (Al Fahel, Jin).
4) Wind energy and the electric grid:
- The MAOWIT project;
- Large penetrations of renewables;
- De-carbonization of the electric grid.
5) Offshore wind:
- The IMPOWR project;
- Impacts of offshore wind turbines on winds and storm surge during hurricanes.
