Culture Shock

The UD student teachers, Fiona and Lauren, are originally from New York and Connecticut, so half of their adventure this semester is experiencing the culture of Greece. Living in another country can be a frightening idea, but in the end it expands your worldview for the better! Here are some of the cultural differences or similarities that Fiona and Lauren have experienced about while abroad.

  • ACS Athens celebrates the 100th day of school, like schools do in the United States. Part of the celebration included students dressing up like 100 year-old men and women!
  • Valentine’s Day was also a cause for celebration, where students enjoyed special treats, exchanged Valentine’s cards and invited their families to attend.
  • Greek cultural values influence curriculum and programming at ACS, where students are supported to succeed linguistically, athletically and musically.
