A Canvas production update will occur on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Check out the full release notes.  Production updates occur on third Saturday of each month, and the next planned update is Saturday, April 15, 2023.  Updates in the current release include:

Rich Content Editor Supports Pasting and the Drag and Drop of Content (March 1 Deploy)*
The Rich Content Editor (RCE) now supports “drag and drop” and the pasting and of content into the editor box to upload and link to or embed.  This capability offers an alternative to the use of document tools for adding content while using the RCE.  This change means you can now:

  • Drag and drop media from your desktop directly into the RCE and have it automatically uploaded to your course Files
  • Copy and paste media directly into the RCE and have it automatically upload to your course Files
  • Drag and drop or Copy and paste images from the web and have them automatically link to the source.

Users can use this feature for document, image, audio, or video files.  Files will be uploaded to the Uploaded Media folder in the course Files with “only available as a link” visibility permissions in the same way as uploading through document tools.

Please note, when dragging and dropping an image from the web, an HTML IMG tag referencing the file at its location on the web is inserted into the RCE. This may or may not display the image for other users depending on the public visibility of the source image.

For more information, please see the Canvas Community Product Blog post, RCE Drag and Drop.

*This feature was added for instructors in the February 15 Deploy and for students in the March 1 Deploy.

Gradebook – Missing Status Added to Set Default Grade Function (February 15 Deploy)
As an added feature to the gradebook “Missing” status keyboard shortcut  released in January (see Canvas Release Notes – January 21, 2023), instructors can use the shortcut for bulk marking assignments as missing with the Set Default Grade option.

This release update also introduced a feature to submit assignments on behalf of students.  The LMS team has chosen to not implement this feature because of possible confusion.  Please e-mail canvas-info@udel.edu if you need to use this feature in your course.
