Update 9/30/2021: Read the latest update regarding Immersive Reader Visibility

To continue our commitment to make the University’s digital content accessible to everyone, Immersive Reader will be enabled in Canvas on August 24th. Microsoft Immersive Reader makes reading more accessible to all learners. It is available when viewing pages in Canvas. Users will see the Immersive Reader button at the top of any page of content – simply click the button to begin using it.

Adding this feature in Canvas will help support all learners, including those with disabilities, to access digital content and meet individual literacy needs. Integrating Immersive Reader into all Canvas Pages will assist students in consuming those resources regardless of their reading ability and make the course content more universally accessible. Key features of Immersive Reader include the ability to read text out loud, break it into syllables, and increase spacing between lines and letters. It also offers text decoding solutions for students with learning differences, such as dyslexia.

The following resources will help you learn more about Immersive Reader and how to use it.

We also just learned that there are plans in September to include Immersive Reader in the Syllabus, Assignments (assignment instructions only), and course Homepage (when appropriate).
