A Canvas production update will occur on Saturday, February 20, 2021. Check out the full release notes. Production updates occur on third Saturday of each month, and the next planned update is Saturday, March 20, 2021.  Updates in the current release include:

MathJax Equation Enhancements
LaTeX equations can be entered in any Canvas text field, and MathJax is loaded if Canvas detects an equation image added by delimited LaTeX characters.  This change allows users to display equations in more areas of Canvas, such as in the title of an assignment or a calendar event, and manage equations more efficiently.  Equations can be added through manual entry or through the Equation editor as supported in the Rich Content Editor.

For more information about using the LaTeX Editor, please see the Canvas Equation Editor Advanced PDF.

Gradebook – Viewed Ungraded as 0
The Canvas Gradebook View menu now includes the “View Ungraded as 0” option.  This is a visual view of the gradebook only and  does not permanently affect any student grades.  It allows instructors to view student grades as if all ungraded assignments were scored as zero points.  For more information, please see the Canvas@UD newsletter post, Canvas Gradebook – View Ungraded as 0.

Import Override Scores in Gradebook using CSV Import
If you have enabled the Final Grade Override feature option in your Canvas course and gradebook, you can use the gradebook CSV export file to enter and upload final grade override scores into your gradebook.  As with other CSV changes, changes to the final grade overrides column display in the import confirmation page providing the opportunity to verify the final grade override scores before they are posted to the Gradebook.  Changes to final grade override scores also reflect in the Gradebook history.

Pretty HTML Editor for the RCE
The default HTML editor of the rich content editor now displays an improved, pretty version in additional to the raw HTML version.  The change provides an enhanced HTML editing experience using line numbering and color coding.  Only the Raw HTML Editor is currently accessible to screen reader users.  Also, both HTML editors can be expanded to the width of the screen.

Individual Student View Button Update (February 17 Deploy)
The quick-access individual Student View button throughout supported Canvas pages has been updated with various updates.

  • The text “Student View” is included in the button
  • The Student View button has been removed from the Course Settings page
  • The Student View button is visible in smaller screen sizes, including browsers on mobile devices
