The Land Stewardship and Ecology program at Longwood Gardens has an opening for a part-time Land Stewardship and Ecology Technician. The part-time technician will join Longwood’s Land Stewardship and Ecology staff in the management of 700+ acres of forests, meadows, wetlands, streams, ponds, and agricultural lands in a southeastern Pennsylvania Piedmont landscape, including the 86-acre Meadow Garden.
The candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of essential land stewardship tasks such as planting native trees, shrubs and herbaceous vegetation; weeding, watering, mulching, and pruning; maintaining trails; managing invasive species; collecting ecological data; and interacting with guests and volunteers. There will be opportunities to assist with wildlife management, and to participate in educational programs related to land stewardship and ecology.
The ability to lift 50 lbs., willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, ability to work both independently and with a team, and a valid driver’s license are required. The technician must have or obtain a PA pesticide applicator’s license. Prior land stewardship or horticultural experience is preferred, as is ability to identify regional plants and experience with string trimmers and utility vehicles; we will also train motivated individuals.
