Dear FFA and 4H Leader/Advisor,

The New Castle County Farm Bureau and the Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation are sponsoring their 4th Annual Milk Run/Walk 5K on May 21st. We have developed a unique opportunity for FFA and 4-H members to participate in the event and receive volunteer hours for participation and fundraising.

How do you get involved?

Any 4-H or FFA member from a given school or organization can register on the “Race2Run” website (www.races2run.com/events/milk-run/) – If only one person from your organization is going to participate then that person should also register as the team captain. You can have sponsors donate online or you can collect donations and turn them in on or before race day. You can keep a tally of your donations on the sheet provided as well as having online donations registered to your team (where possible you will also want to include these donations on your tally sheet). This is how we will keep track of your donations.

As a token of appreciation for collecting donations for the race, individuals will receive 10 volunteer hours for their first $100 raised, then an extra hour for every additional $25 over the initial $100. Additionally, individuals can receive 4 hours for volunteering at or participating in the event – please indicate your intention to volunteer or participate in the event by emailing Laura Simpson at laura.simpson@defb.org.  You can also receive 4 volunteer hours by running or walking in the race, but you will need to formally register, either on-line or the day of the race.

Within 30 days of the event following the race, individuals will receive a letter documenting their volunteer hours associated with the event – please indicate where you would like the letter sent.  In addition to the individual recognition of volunteer hours, the team FFA Chapter or 4-H group with the highest donation amount will receive a $250 gift card, milk glass trophies, and recognition by the two charity beneficiaries.

In keeping with the race name “Milk Run” one of the primary beneficiaries is the Ministry of Caring and their “Milk for Children Fund” our second named beneficiary is the Middletown Neighborhood House. I’ve provided links to both of these worthy causes below and encourage you to visit their sites and learn more about the great work they do in the community. We have contributed nearly $50,000 to support these worthy causes in the past 3 years.
