Dear 4-H Families and Friends,

This summer has been filled with lots of 4-H activities including State 4-H Camp, Day Camps, Environmental Camp, Cow Camp, Exchange Group trip to Minnesota and the Centennial State Fair! Lots of learning, growing and many 4-H memories were made!

A huge THANK YOU to the volunteers that helped make the fair 4-H Building happen!  Volunteers helped in many ways including set up day, judging, judges luncheon, display helpers, host and hostesses and clean up day. It was a great example of TEAMWORK and very much appreciated!

Congratulations to recent high school graduates, Matthew Johnston and Hunter Willoughby. They were presented with a Delaware 4-H Foundation Scholarship at the annual foundation brunch on July 20. Matthew is attending DeSales University and Hunter is attending the University of Delaware. Best wishes to both! They are pictured below with Susan Eliason, 4-H Foundation President and Laina Herbert, Vice President.

With the new 4-H year starting September 1, our monthly meetings resume. On September 3, 4-H enrollment and re-enrollment will begin. Enrollment help will be available on Sept. 23 prior to the Leaders/Jr. Council and Exchange meeting in the NCC office. Record books will also be due on Sept. 23. Record book training workshop will be held on Sept. 9 at 6 pm at the NCC office. Please RSVP to Serena (serenac@udel.edu) or 831-8965 if you plan to attend.

Our County Achievement Event will be held on October 6 at 2 pm.in the NCC Extension Office. Plan to attend this celebration of our 4-Hers accomplishments! This event will kick off National 4-H Week, October 6-12 with the theme of “Inspire Kids to Do”!

Looking ahead, we are planning a Quarter Auction to benefit NCC 4-H on Nov. 1. Stay tuned for more details. In case you are wondering:

What is a Quarter Auction?
Upon arrival, you will receive a numbered paddle. Auction items will be on display with a bid price of 1,2,3, or 4 quarters. As the items are presented, if you want to bid, you place the bid amount in the bowl provided and hold your paddle in the air. If the auctioneer picks your paddle number from the bucket of numbered balls, you WIN the item, walking away with an AMAZING product for only .25, .50, .75 or $1.00.

Hope to see you at many 4-H events in the 2019-2020 4-H year!

Yours in 4-H,

Betsy, Kaitlin, Serena and Maureen
