Dear 4-H Families and Friends,

New Castle County 4-H is gearing up for NCC Livestock show, state and day camps, Minnesota exchange trip and the Delaware State Fair. In addition, the NCC Livestock Judging Contest will be held Friday, June 7 at 6:30 pm in the Kent Building at the state fairgrounds.  This will be the qualifier for the state contest. Bonus – the Livestock Committee is offering cash prizes!

THANK YOU to the Meado-Larks, Summit Bridge and Porter Gang clubs who participated in the April Canned Good Challenge, resulting in a large donation to the Food Bank. Thank you for your commitment to serving others!

CONGRATULATIONS to demonstration and judging contest participants who are heading to  state fair competitions (see results in the news blog)!

WELCOME to our summer interns! Shannon Murray is a UD Extension Scholar and will be the Newark Day Camp Director and Alyson Melson will be the Cloverbud Camp Director. Both just completed their freshman year of college and have assisted at camp in the past.

STATE FAIR HELPERS AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
The Fair is not possible without the talented 4-Hers and adult volunteers that make it all happen. Consider volunteering to help set-up the building (July 1), check-in exhibits, and assist judges (July 16-19).  Help is always needed, especially adult volunteers!  We ask that all helpers be age 8 or older. Any questions or to sign up please contact Maureen Ernst (831-4973 or cmmcmk@udel.edu).

Wanted: New Castle County 4-H is looking for a volunteer to participate in the Pig Kissin’ Contest at the Delaware State Fair on July 25 at 3 pm. Contestants raise money for the Delaware State Fair Jr. Exhibitor Scholarship. Let us know if you would like to be our representative in this unforgettable experience!

Looking ahead, 4-H Project Record Books will be due September 23. These are a great opportunity for 4-H members to detail their activities and experiences during the past 4-H year. Take the time now to start completing your record book. The forms can be found on the county and state 4-H webpages. Be sure to ask your leader, an older 4-H member or your county agents for help. Then, plan to attend the Achievement Celebration on October 6! It promises to be a fun filled event recognizing our wonderful and active 4-Hers!

There will not be a News Flash Blog in July or August. Important news, updates and reminders will be sent as needed.

Have a safe and fun-filled summer!

Yours in 4-H,

Betsy, Kaitlin, Serena and Maureen
