How to earn $ in Delaware if you are not yet 14
- The American Red Cross offers a babysitting course for those ages 11 and up for a fee of $45 Babysitting is a great way to earn cash when you cannot yet get your working papers.
- You can offer to do yard work for neighbors and friends. With your parents permission, ask neighbors and friends you know who live close to you so that you can walk or ride your bike to their property. Older people especially need help with outside work. People with young children also have a tough time getting things accomplished. That’s where you come in! Negotiate a fare wage together.
- Offer to clean for neighbors and friends. Just like yard work, many people simply cannot get to these tasks on their own. If they know you and know you are willing to try hard, they may be willing to again negotiate a good rate and pay you for some cleaning jobs whether those jobs be inside or outside of the house.
According to:
DELAWARE CHILD LABOR LAW
MINIMUM AGE FOR EMPLOYMENT. The minimum age for employment in Delaware is fourteen (14) years of age
So at age 14 you should head to your guidance counselor’s office in school and fill out your working papers. There is a space for your new employer to fill out as well.
Keep in mind: Most restaurants will not hire until you are 16, but there are locations that hire at 14
Sample jobs for kids ages 14-16: Farm stores like Willey’s and Coleman Tree Farm
At age 16 feel free to apply anywhere!

Healthy Snack:
Turkey Veggie Wraps

These super-simple turkey wraps start with long slices of veggies. I enjoy the crispness and flavor of bell peppers and cucumbers, however, feel free to include carrots, celery or any other veggies you enjoy.
Typically, I’ll slice up two or three peppers at a time, along with a large English cucumber (you don’t have to peel!)
Your next step is adding a wedge cheese to a slice of deli turkey. There are many flavors feel free to go with your favorite. This becomes the creamy filling of the turkey wrap.
Next, simply place a few veggie strips in the center of the turkey slice that has been spread with cheese and roll up like a tortilla. That’s it!
