Shivam Pathak, class of 2024, is one our newest Blue Hen right from Newark, Delaware. He majors in accounting and has a passion for all things business. As one of the newest Senators for Student Government, Shivam is excited to be at the forefront of creating positive change at the University of Delaware. Read more about his UD story, passions, and plans for the future in the story below!

Why UD? What made you to attend the University of Delaware?

I chose UD because I love the numerous amount of opportunities available to me. Along with that I get a very positive vibe from UD which is the main reason I chose UD.

What are some things you are actively involved with outside of UD and/or were involved in prior to UD?

Some clubs I was involved with in my high school include Business Professionals of America (BPA), DECA, FFA, NHS, Student Council and the class of 2020 executive board. Out of all of the organizations I was involved with, I spent most of my time with BPA. I joined BPA when I was in the 7th grade just as an extracurricular activity, although this decision would make life changing experiences. I was given the opportunity to visit many different states such as California, Massachusetts, Florida and Texas to compete at a national level. Along with this I also was given the honor of being the State Treasurer for two consecutive years where I built a network with the state legislature and fortune 500 companies.

Describe your student involvement at UD.

I am currently a freshman so I am not very involved in Student Government yet. Although I chose SGA because I was very interested in their core principle which is to be a liaison for the student faculty relationship. I look forward to joining the Accounting Student Association (ASA) and the Entrepreneurship Club.

What are your passions or aspirations, both academic and not?

My passion is business, I am very interested in how the market works and I try to stay updated with new technology being brought to the market. Along with that I am very interested in the stock market and ensuring that I make the most profits! Lastly I aspire to work in corporate America one day in order to bring an economical change in society.

What inspired you towards these passions?

My biggest inspiration to achieve these passions would have to be my family, especially my parents. Growing up as an immigrant in the US and seeing my parents work hard in order to give my brother and I all that we want is truly eye opening. Seeing my parents work hard makes me drive to succeed and put all my efforts into making myself the best person in order to satisfy their hard work and years worth of penance.

Describe any challenges you have overcome and how you overcame them.

One of the most challenging times for me was the transition from high school to college. This transition was challenging because I had to learn new techniques to balance my time so that I would not fall behind on any task.

Where do you see yourself next at UD and post-UD?

I see myself working in the library and putting all my effort into learning the material for all classes that I take. Post UD I see myself working in corporate America as a financial analyst.

What have you been doing during quarantine to keep busy?

I have been playing basketball and going on mile runs to release stress and process what is going on in society.

What is something you cannot go without either having or doing?

I cannot go without a big cup of coffee in the morning!

What TV show are you binging right now?

I have actually not been watching any shows right now, as I am usually busy with school.

First place you’re looking forward to going after things finally get back to normal?

TACO BELL!!!

If there was a movie made about you, what would it be called?

Shivam wait for it… Pathak
