Through my World Literature class, I was given the opportunity to work on the Moving Fictions website. This site explores different texts that deal with migrants, immigrants, and refugees. I worked on various pages, like discussion questions, further research, and pages that are unique to different texts. Working on this website has helped further my knowledge about WordPress, as well as exposing me to different stories I might not have heard otherwise.
Group Research Project on Newark Ordinance 19-05
This project was assigned for my Technical Writing class. This assignment was particularly challenging because my fellow group members and I never got the opportunity to meet face-to-face so all the communication had to be done via emails, texts, and calls. The challenge seemed daunting at first, but we managed particularly well, and created a final report that we were all proud of. This report had many different steps, including a proposal, a written letter to someone we wanted to see this report, graphics, and interviews.
Female Representation in Children’s Movies Inquiry
For this assignment, we were given the opportunity to choose our own topic to research. I wanted to work on female representation in children’s movies because I’ve always loved movies, but was always frustrated with the portrayal of female characters. I wanted to focus my research on the way women were speaking and what was being said about them, specifically in children’s movies because I wanted to see what little kids were growing up watching and what societal norms they felt like they needed to conform to.
Female Antagonist Representation
This assignment was assigned in my Diversity and Writing class. We were given the opportunity to pick a topic that dealt with diversity and writing, and I decided to base my paper off of the lack of female antagonists in movies, and why that was such an issue. I had a lot of fun writing this paper because it was a topic that I already knew a little bit about, but I was still learning new things along the way. It was a challenge at first because there is a lot that can be said about this particular topic and I had a hard time focusing my paper, but I eventually found a good direction and produced a paper that I am very proud of.
