Exchange of lessons learned in labour market youth inclusion programs in Latin America and Africa was held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, hosted by the Bernard von Leer Foundation. I was invited to share some perspectives on child development and presented a talk on healthy brain development in learning and literacy. Children’s learning outcomes, especially successfully learning to read, is dependent on the healthy, typical maturation of the brain’s structure and its functional organization.
