April Kloxin Group and Mimicking Nature

The April Kloxin Group at the University of Delaware focuses on the design of materials that mimic and respond to specific biological systems and their use for understanding and directing these systems to heal the body.  This work includes the creation materials that mimic tissues rich in fibrous proteins such as collagen, the most abundant protein in the body, as well as changes in tissues over time to study how the body heals (or does not heal) during regeneration, disease, or aging.

Supported by a NSF CAREER award from the Biomaterials Program (DMR-1253906), the Mimicking Nature kiosk and companion website aim to teach others about this work and, more generally, how people can mimic natural systems to create technologies to help others and improve the world around us.  The design and creation of the kiosk and website is an on-going collaboration between the University of Delaware (UD) and the Delaware Museum of Natural History (DMNH) to bring scientific innovations happening locally to a broad audience and inspire and engage individuals of all ages to explore their world.

Check out the kiosk in person at the DMNH along with other exciting exhibits.
